When creating my solo exhibition Fulfillment, I had the opportunity to collaborate with Jason Charney on a sound piece to accompany the exhibition. Jason recorded sound from my making processes to use as raw material for sonic composition. In the work environment, sound plays an important role for me. It helps me find a rhythm within my work and settle into the act of making, where time and movement are transformed and long or difficult tasks are metered and more palatable, even enjoyable. This is as true for me in the metals studio as it is in any work environment where my physical labor is involved. Jason was really receptive to my ideas about sound and Fulfillment, the track he produced, is a beautiful and thoughtful response to them. It is also a fascinating extension of his compositional work.
Fulfillment is an 18’20” track that was played in a loop with quadrophonic surround sound in the BJC Gallery. Jason is releasing a stereo remix, mastered by Sam Torres of Polymouth Audio, on Bandcamp, September 9, 2022. You can preorder/purchase the piece here for a very reasonable price. Your purchase will support the work Jason put into this project.
