Online Course: Adobe Illustrator for Jewelers: 2D Design for 3D Jewelry

In July I will be teaching an online workshop with Metalwerx School for Jewelry. The workshop description is posted below and the link to sign up is HERE. I use Illustrator all the time and have taught this workshop before. It’s great for people who know how to draw and want to digitize their drawings. It’s also great for people who don’t know how to draw and want to work with found imagery in their jewelry designs. In the workshop we look at making printable templates for saw piercing and files you can send to laser cutting companies.

Metalwerx course description:

Is hand drawing and sketching not your cup of tea? Looking for a way to explore planning or designing in your jewelry practice that's less manual and comes with a whole bag of prescribed "tools" to help you get the job done in an efficient yet accurate manner? Look no further than this perfectly suited virtual class that utilizes well know digital software to help you draw, plan, mock-up, and turn your 2D ideas into the 3D jewelry objects you wish to see in the world!

In this virtual workshop, students will be introduced to the tools and features of Adobe Illustrator that can be utilized for numerous digital needs, but in our case, for the planning and creation of jewelry! This 3-session workshop will specifically focus on using Illustrator as an effective tool for freeform drawing, digitally tracing images, creating printable templates for piercing with a saw, and creating files for CNC and laser cutting machines. Between sessions, students will be given exercises for practicing the techniques demonstrated in class.

While experience with Adobe Illustrator is not required for this class, student must be comfortable navigating a computer with reasonable efficiency.
